Northway Biotechpharma is a flexible biologics CDMO headquartered in the EU member state of Lithuania, a fast-growing biotech hub with a state-subsidized university system that supports a highly-educated scientific workforce.

Vladas Algirdas Bumelis Ph.D.

Executive Chairman of BoD & Advisory Board

Dr. Vladas Bumelis is the Founder of Biotechpharma and Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
He has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, having previously served as General Manager of Sicor Biotech UAB (now Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.), Chairman of the Board for the biotech companies Biofa and Biotechna, and Chairman of the Board and General Manager of the Institute of Applied Enzymology in Lithuania.
In 2004, Dr. Bumelis received the Science Award of Lithuania in recognition of his achievements in the development and production of recombinant proteins. He has a PhD and MSc in chemistry, as well as a PhD in biotechnology, from Vilnius University.


Diana Bumelytė


Diana has over 18 years of experience in running medical centers and working as a general practitioner. She worked at Seskines Healthcare in Vilnius before setting up Northway Medicinos Centras ("Northway" is one of the largest private medical centers in Lithuania providing comprehensive medical services in Lithuania and UK, London), where she has been General Manager for the last 15 years. Diana has a medical degree from Vilnius University.


Eugenija Sutkienė


Eugenija is a leading expert in pharmaceutical, life sciences, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial law.
She has over 25 years of legal services experience acting as a legal advisor to corporations such as Coca-Cola, Mars Inc., Philip Morris, Sicor Biotech, Svenska Petroleum as well as an advisor to the Lithuanian Government. She studied at Vilnius university where she graduated as Master of Law, she also studied International Law at Krakow University.
Eugenija has been recognised as being in the top 4 most influential women in Lithuania, Valstybe (The State), and by the IFLR1000 which recognises the top 300 female lawyers considered to be among the best transactional specialists in their markets and practice areas.

Giedrius Žunda

Chief Executive Officer

Giedrius has more than 18 years of experience in biotechnology and biopharma. Prior to joining Northway Biotechpharma, he served in various senior development, operations and executive management roles, including Site General Manager and Member of the BoD for Sicor Biotech UAB (now Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.). Giedrius has a BSc in bioengineering and an MSc in ecology/biotechnology.

Tomas Bubinas

Chief Financial Officer

Tomas has more than 18 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry experience. Prior to joining Northway Biotechpharma, he served as Senior Director, Operations, for Teva Biopharmaceuticals USA, previously serving as CFO of Teva Baltics and Finance Director at Sicor Inc. Tomas has both an MSc in economics and an MBA.

Tomas Norkus

Chief Operations Officer

Tomas has more than 9 years of experience in biotechnology and biopharma, having previously served as DSP Line Manager for Sicor Biotech UAB (now Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.). Over the course of his career, Tomas has gained a deep understanding of downstream protein purification processes and cGMP regulations, as well as how to lead high-performing teams and manage complex, cross-functional biotech projects. He has an MSc in microbiology and a BSc in molecular biology, both from Vilnius University.


Mindaugas Katkus

Chief Quality Officer

Mindaugas has more than 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry, with specific experience in large-volume parenterals, including analytical methods for biologics and transfer of methods and technologies. He spent 10 years at Sicor Biotech UAB (now Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.), where he held various leadership positions, including Head of Quality Control, Head of Validation, Senior Validation Engineer and Quality Assurance Manager. Mindaugas has an MSc in biochemistry as well as a manager of technologies degree.

Tomas Z}

Tomas Žemaitis

Chief Technical Officer

Tomas has been working in the biotech industry for more than 7 years as a facilities manager for both production and commercial sites. He has an MSc in mechanical engineering. Over the course of his career, Tomas has accumulated vast experience in leading large scale projects related to the expansion of R&D and cGMP sites, as well as overseeing facilities administration and management at multiple sites.


Laura Baltakienė

Chief People Officer

Laura has more than 19 years of HR experience in the biotechnology/ biopharma industry. She has extensive international experience of working in a diverse cultural environment, driving the HR agenda, implementing global processes and modern local practices. Laura is focused on supporting and promoting employee engagement experiences to drive a strong company culture and success. She has an MSc in HR.

Grace H. Kim

VP Business Development - North America

Grace has more than 18 years of experience across the biopharmaceutical value chain. She began her career in discovery research at Pfizer (formerly Wyeth) then moved to cGLP clinical testing at Neotropix before moving into sales and business development. Prior to joining Northway Biotechpharma, she lead the US based Global Business Development team at Samsung BioLogics. Grace holds an MSc in molecular and cellular biology from The Johns Hopkins University.


André Markmann, Ph.D.

VP Business Development - Europe

André holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and has more than 18 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, having worked for global companies like Sanofi-Aventis and DSM/Patheon. For more than 15 years, André has specialized in Business Development for CDMO´s with a focus on process development and cGMP manufacturing of biologicals.
